by plane:
There are three airports which have good to acceptable connections to Jülich: Düsseldorf, Cologne and Frankfurt. From Frankfurt you can catch a fast train (ICE) which brings you to Cologne central station in little over one hour. From the Cologne and Düsseldorf airports you can also catch one of frequent trains to Cologne central station (10-20 minutes travel time). Please see the section "by train" below to find out how to proceed further.

by train:
Most likely you will come by either Cologne or Aachen on your way to Jülich.

From Cologne central station (and likewise from Aachen) you can take a regional train ("Regional Express") to Düren (direction to Aachen/ or to Cologne if you start in Aachen). In Düren you have to change to the local "Rurtalbahn" which brings you directly into the heart of Jülich or you can use our shuttle service. A taxi from Düren takes about 20 min. and costs about 30 €.

Simply enter Düsseldorf airport, Cologne (or Aachen) as departure and Düren or Jülich as destination and select the date. In the list which will be displayed afterwards, select "Details for all" on the lower left in order to see the connections.

by car:
Coming from Aachen: Take the 'Autobahn' A 44 (Aachen - Düsseldorf) to the exit Jülich-West (Koslar). At the end of the slip road take a left turn towards Jülich and one kilometer later, turn right at the roundabout towards Düren and follow the road about 5 kilometers (Westring) to the third traffic lights. Turn to the left into the L 253 and follow the signs for 'Forschungszentrum Jülich' (about 1.5 km) to the main entrance.

Coming from Airport Düsseldorf via 'Autobahn' A 52 (direction: Düsseldorf / Mönchengladbach), then A 57 (direction Köln), then A 46 (direction Jüchen / Grevenbroich), then A 44 direction Aachen.

Coming from Düsseldorf: Take the 'Autobahn' A 44 (Düsseldorf - Aachen) to the exit Jülich-Ost (Mersch), turn right, and take the road B 55n to the direction of Jülich for about one kilometer. Leave the B 55n (turn right and immediately left) following the signs to Jülich leaving the transmitter station to your right. At the first lights turn left (direction Düren). On the Jülich ring road follow the signs over Brunnenstr., Wiesenstr., Oststr. and then turn left (into Leo-Brandt-Str.), following the signs "Forschungszentrum" to the main gate (Haupttor).

Coming from Köln (Cologne): Take the 'Autobahn' A 4 (Köln - Aachen) to the exit Düren; at the end of the slip road take a right turn towards Jülich (L 253), after 10 km turn to the right and follow the signs for 'Forschungszentrum Jülich' (about 1.5km) to the main entrance.
