PostDoc Position at the Institute for Bio- and Nanosystems, Forschungszentrum Jülich

In order to strengthen our multi-technique approach on research towards molecule-based nanoelectronics we purchased a Low Energy Electron Microscope and Photo Electron Emission Microscope (LEEM/PEEM III)). The high-end microscope is equipped with aberration corrector and energy filter and will be available at our institute from July 2010. In the context with this new machine we are offering the following position:

PostDoc position in the field of Spectro-Microscopy on organic-inorganic interfaces and other nanostructured systems

Three PhD Positions at the Institute for Bio- and Nanosystems, Forschungszentrum Jülich

For its research towards molecule-based nanoelectronics, the department Functional Nanostructures at Surfaces offers PhD projects (Dr. rer. nat.) in the following fields

  1. Precise structure of adsorbed molecules at the sub-Å scale (1)
  2. Transport through nanoscale quantum solids and liquids (2)
  3. STM-based quantum transport through molecular wires (3)

More details about the research projects are available following the web links, or from the corresponding contact persons (see below).

All projects are funded by the program "Fundamentals of Future Information Technology", a strategic research initiative of the Helmholtz Gemeinschaft deutscher Forschungszentren, carried out by the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ). The FZJ is the largest German research centre. It offers excellent opportunities for research in an international environment. Within the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance (JARA), founded under the auspices of the German Excellence Initiative, it is closely linked to the RWTH Aachen.

Salaries are competitive (TvöD + allowance depending on the candidate's profile), teaching load is low and dissertations are usually completed within three years. Equal opportunities are a cornerstone of our staff policy for which we have received the "TOTAL E-QUALITY" award.

Requirements

Candidates with an MSc or equivalent degree in Physics or a related discipline, with an overall grade of at least "good", are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application

Further information about the individual projects can be obtained from (1) s.subach@fz-juelich.de and (2,3) r.temirov@fz-juelich.de. Please send your application, including the relevant documents and stating the preferred project(s), to
