The new e-beam writerThe department Institute of Bio- & Nanosystems (IBN) at the Research Centre Jülich comprises four institutes (in German: Teilinstitute) with research objectives covering a wide area from basic research in semiconductor physics, biophysics, chemistry, processing technology, and device fabrication for numerous applications. The department ISG was funded in 2001 by a merger of the Institute of Thin Films and Ion Technology (ISI) and the Institute of Interfaces and Vacuum Research (IGV). The basic idea was to bring together various disciplines and bring to bear their different methodologies, strategies and terms of thinking for a joint approach. The research is embedded into two strategic areas of research, namely Structure of Matter - Condensed Matter Physics and Key Technologies - Information Technologies with Nanoelectronic Systems. Within these missions, the activities are focused on interfaces, both inorganic and (bio) organic ones, on growth and processing of thin films, device development and the basic physics in these areas of research.
