Dynamics of growth and transport as well as their interaction with the spatially and temporally herterogenous environment are my dominant scientific interests. Knowledge about these interactions provide the basis of novel applications in a sustainable bioeconomy of the future - the so-called knowledge-based bioeconomy (KBBE). To understand such functions and to transfer them into practical applications requires quantitative information about key plant processes and their interaction with the dynamically changing envirnmental conditions as well as the underlying physiological and molecular mechanisms. Novel technologies and innovative experimental concepts are urgently needed.
Since 2001 I am heading the Institute Phytosphere (ICG-3) at the Research Centre Jülich. The research of this institute is organised in 4 research areas:
- Growth and Metabolism
- Transport Dynamics
- Ecosystem Dynamics
- Enabling Technologie
Since 2002 I am full professor at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
