NMR-CUFF: a portable NMR imager for plants in the field:
plant structure, water content and water flow in plants
JPPC
|
The imager
- Openable magnet to fit around the plant part of interest
- Halbach type magnet for optimal field strength / weight ratio (0.56T, 3Kg)
- Efficient, low cost RF coils
- Efficient, open micro gradients
- Small energy efficient RF and gradient coils make it possible to run the imager with compact battery operated spectrometers
Methods
- Basic NMR imaging
- T1, T2 and diffusion mapping
- Q space flow measurements
- Water content determination
- Growth and biomass determination
|
Results
Imaging the main stem of a castor bean plant
|
Measuring xylem flow in an intact poplar tree
