Federated Systems and Data
Division Head:
Daniel Mallmann
Grid computing evolved as a key technology enabling scientists and engineers in research and industry to solve challenging problems, master complex heterogeneous environments, and collaborate in unprecedented ways. Grids integrate distributed computing resources, data produced by scientific instruments, for example tomographs, accelerators, satellites, or telescopes, and data created through simulations and stored in archives or databases, and visualization media through high speed networks.
The division is working on the following tasks and topics:
The researchers and developers of the divison are and were active in several national and international Grid R&D projects. A full overview is given on the JSC Grid computing webpage.

The division is working on the following tasks and topics:
| Acquisition and coordination of and active participation in national and international Grid R&D projects | |
| Active involvement in international standardization organizations like GGF, OASIS | |
| Grid-related research in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), resource management and scheduling, security, data management, and workflows | |
| Development of the UNICORE Grid Software including design and implementation of new functionality, support for the production usage, and adaptation to evolving Grid standards like OGSA and WS-RF | |
| Support of the open source initiative UNICORE@SourceForge | |
| Dissemination activities through publications, presentations, demonstrations, and organization of the UNICORE summit |
The researchers and developers of the divison are and were active in several national and international Grid R&D projects. A full overview is given on the JSC Grid computing webpage.
