Prepare your first job with the UNICORE Rich Client

 
To access the UNICORE Vsites (JUGENE an JUROPA) through the Client, take a right mouse click in the upper window in the tab "Grid Browser". Choose the first entry "add Registry", enter the url https://fzj-unic.fz-juelich.de:9112/FZJ/services/Registry?res=default_registry and a registry name meaningful to you. Then use the "Refresh Grid" button. You should now see the Jülich supercomputers in the Grid Browser. If not, restart the UNICORE Client. Some Screenshots visualize this process.

Create your first UNICORE Job:
item select the GridBrowser Tab in your UNICORE Client and select your registry and click on to open
item take a right mouse click on the registry or on the Virtual Site (JUGENE, JUROPA) and select "create job"
item you can choose between different applications, which are installed at the site -> Select skript
item a new tab will be created
item enter commands e.g. date in the Script Editor and choose the Script Type (bash, sh, perl, ...) and version
item In the command line options field you can enter parameters for the job or other options
item you can change the site, where the job should be sent to by selecting the "Resources" tab at the bottom of your tab and selecting the resource. You can also specify the resource requirements of your job there
item click on the green submit icon in the upper left corner of the client to submit your job
item your job will be submitted to the selected target system (e.g. JUGENE). On the bottom line of your client first the message "submitting job ..." and then a tab is created which indicates the job status
item to get the job status go into the Grid Browser, select the UNICORE Site (e.g. FZJ) and click on to open it, then select the Virtual Site (e.g. JUGENE) and click to open it. Your submitted job appears below
item the job colour indicates the job status:
blue or yellow: the job is pending
green: the job has completed successfully
red: the job has completed not successfully
item maybe you have to click on your job in the Grid Browser to refresh the job status
item to get the output of the job there are two options
  • select the job in the Grid Browser and click to open it -> you should see the files: stdin, stderr and input
  • Select the editor showing the submitted job. Next to the green submit icon you should see the grey "Fetch output files ..." button. Click on it, select the application (e.g. Script) and a pop-up window appears where you can select the output files you want to download. leave it with OK. Then a new Tab should opened where you can see the output of your job.
