HLRZ, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany
The HLRZ was founded in 1987 by the German research centers DESY, GMD and KFA
in order to promote the method of computer simulation in Germany. In April 1987
the first supercomputer, a CRAY X-MP 48, was installed for the HLRZ in the
KFA Jülich. Since July 1989 KFA operates a Cray Y-MP 832 for the HLRZ.
Computer time at the CRAY Y-MP is provided free of charge for scientific
projects on request.
The main areas of research at the HLRZ focus on elementary particle physics and
many-body (solid state) physics. The workshop is dedicated to the presentation
of the results obtained in these areas at the HLRZ so far.
