The purpose of this workshop was to develop a unified view of flow instabilities like traffic jams or clogging of a hopper by powder. Recent progress in modelling, computer simulation and experiment have been presented, and the perspectives for applications have been discussed. Topics included highway as well as pedestrian traffic, granular flow in pipes, down a chute and in fluidized beds.
