NIC-Project among the Top Ten Scientific Breakthroughs of 2008

The editors of the magazine Science have chosen the results of a NIC-Project as one the top ten scientific breakthroughs of 2008 :

The group around Prof. Zoltan Fodor (Wuppertal) has determined the dynamic origin of the masses of the light hadrons (Duerr et al., Science Vol. 322 (2008) pp. 1224 - 1227) using an approach known as "lattice quantum chromodynamics". The extensive numerical calculations necessary for these results were performed on the Jülich supercomputers, provided by grants from the NIC.
